Active recall is a learning technique that involves actively retrieving information from memory. This can be done by quizzing yourself, writing out notes from memory, or trying to explain a concept to someone else. Active recall is more effective than simply rereading notes or passively listening to a lecture because it forces your brain to work harder to retrieve the information. This process helps to strengthen the memory trace and make the information more likely to be retained in the long term.
