Nursing is a complex and diverse field that offers a variety of career opportunities. Nurses provide direct patient care, and also play a vital role in the development and implementation of healthcare policies. Nurses work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and schools. They may also work in research, education, or administration.
There are many different types of nurses, each with their own unique area of expertise. Some of the most common types of nurses include:
- Registered nurses (RNs): RNs provide direct patient care and work under the supervision of a physician. They may work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and schools.
- Licensed practical nurses (LPNs): LPNs provide basic nursing care under the supervision of an RN or physician. They may work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and schools.
- Certified nursing assistants (CNAs): CNAs provide basic nursing care under the supervision of an RN or LPN. They may work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and schools.

Education and Training
Nurses must complete an accredited nursing program in order to practice. Some nurses also pursue a doctorate in nursing (PhD) or a doctor of nursing practice (DNP).
