Atención Integrada a las Enfermedades Prevalentes de la Infancia

AIEPI es un referente mundial para la atención de niños y niñas frente a diversas enfermedades; mientras que la atención integrada es un modelo basado en la detección oportuna de casos con el uso de signos clínicos, clasificación adecuada y tratamiento oportuno. Está diseñado para ser utilizado por profesionales sanitarios que atienden a niños desde el nacimiento hasta los 5 años de edad. Se centra en el proceso de gestión de casos que se utilizará en un consultorio, centro de salud, departamento ambulatorio de un hospital, clínica ambulatoria o sala de emergencias, en todos los niveles de atención. A su vez, describe cómo cuidar al niño que acude a la unidad de salud cuando está enfermo, y se aplica en el seguimiento y promoción del crecimiento y desarrollo, en la inmunización, en los casos de enfermedad y en la visita de seguimiento programada.
