La epilepsia es una enfermedad crónica, y que en términos clínicos ha sido muy estudiada, sin embargo, las mayores complicaciones que enfrentan las personas que la presentan están fuertemente vinculadas a la percepción del entorno, a mitos y creencias que dificultan sus oportunidades de participación.

El propósito de este MOOC es generar un espacio de diálogo a través del abordaje de temáticas claves para comprender y desmitificar la epilepsia con tal de ampliar la mirada y generar espacios de inclusión social.

El enfoque que presentamos es interdisciplinario permitiendo un abordaje que precisa su alcance; definiéndola y proponiendo una participación activa sobre, por ejemplo, como enfrentar una crisis y cuál es la manera correcta de ayudar y cuál es el importante papel que juegan el autocuidado y automanejo con tal de advertir aquellos factores de riesgo que pueden precipitar una crisis y aquellos que actúan como factores protectores. La intención centrales es poder aprender, aconsejar y dar el apoyo necesario a las familias, entendiéndolas como actores relevantes en este proceso.

Módulo 2: ¿Cómo es el tratamiento de la epilepsia? Epilepsias en la adultez
Este módulo aborda cómo es el tratamiento de la epilepsia desde una mirada multidisciplinaria y cómo es el pronóstico de esta patología; considerando, además, la importancia del automanejo y autocuidado para el éxito del tratamiento. Se describe cómo es la epilepsia en la etapa adulta y las principales comorbilidades que afectan a estos pacientes, con un especial énfasis en la mujer con epilepsia y su vida reproductiva.
Módulo 3: Epilepsias en la niñez y adolescencia; y apoyo en el entorno escolar
Este módulo aborda las principales características de la epilepsia y sus comorbilidades más frecuentes en la niñez y adolescencia; además de enfatizar la relevancia que adquiere el apoyo en entorno escolar y el fomento de habilidades de automanejo en los adolescentes y jóvenes con epilepsia.
Módulo 4: Promover un entorno inclusivo en Epilepsia
Este módulo aborda el proceso de estigmatización que enfrentan las personas con epilepsia y su impacto a nivel psicosocial, analizando la importancia de promover estrategias para un entorno inclusivo y participativo. Además, aborda un aspecto clave referido a la figura del cuidador; entendida como aquella persona que brinda en forma permanente cuidados de salud y apoyo emocional a un ser querido.
