Anthropology of Current World Issues

This course will allow you to better understand the world around you through utilising the anthropological lens. You will learn about the way in which anthropology as a discipline can shed new perspectives on current world issues, from indigeneity to migration and material culture.

We want to challenge you to reflect on your own perspective when thinking about these issues, how you see the world and how we all engage with difference and sameness on a daily basis.

We will interview notable anthropologists and follow some around the world and into their field to explore the issues, the people they work with and their place in the world.

What you'll learn

  • How to better understand cultural differences and sameness

What people are saying

so he ci dropped

So he cI dropped this class because I knew that it wouldn't really help me much given the location of where the class was held.

more likely confusing especially

Nice videos It was more likely confusing especially if it was a certified class or not.

make test interpretation part

The fact that Anthropology may not be exact science, but rather a social science, should not prevent teachers to offer hard data evidence and make test interpretation part of the answer by building a model.

offer hard data evidence

focus on global warming

People who are complaining about the lack of focus on global warming, for example, do not seem to realise that they can now use what this course has taught them and do their own research.

new country every week

Looking back, the thing I most loved about this course was travelling to a new country every week and delving into some of the deep issues that the people of the land face, via this course.

filling lectures with interviews

Worst part of all was filling lectures with interviews from other professors, who in turn would just provide their own definition of a subject.

same words within

The fact that I scored 100% right answers on all tests did not prove how well I grasped any course learning, but rather my copy and paste hability in capturing the asked question and then looking for the same words within the provided video transcript.

three star rating

The three star rating is very unjust and I think this is because a lot of people have misunderstood the idea of developing a 'tool-kit' by examining a very specific area but which can be applied in general to all areas.

adding supplementary courses

In line with that, I would suggest to the instructors and providers to work on adding supplementary courses to this one and expanding the geographical reach to include the work of anthropologists in many other countries.

but without

But without a model or data from actual happenings, their opinions are just as good as mine.
