This course proposes to learn:

— wine history of Ukraine;

— geography and climate of Ukraine;

— wine grapes of Ukraine;

— wine regions of Ukraine.

There are a lot of information about exceptional wine brands of Ukraine, where to find them and why to try them. Kolonist, Beykush, Shabo, Chizay are some of them, for sure. Over the past 15 years, a large number of decent local Ukrainian wines have appeared. Ukraine has amount of wines that won golden and silver medals. Nowadays wine enthusiasts can find these samples in different wine shops and even in the supermarkets of some countries.

Today Ukrainian winemakers are forming a new culture of consumption and perception of wine, developing an understanding of wine and the ability to appreciate, analyze and enjoy it. Restaurateurs are opening the bars offering exclusively Ukrainian wines. Often you can find yourself at a trendy food pairing where various dishes find a gastronomic match among Ukrainian wines.

What do you know about Ukrainian wine for now? Test your knowledge and learn something new!

Do you know that Greeks brought viticulture to Ukraine more than 2,5 thousand years ago? And then it became the part of Ukrainian life. This story does not compare to French or Italian wine history but Ukraine knows about winemaking since its birth. USSR almost destroyed Ukrainian winemaking culture. Nevertheless our winemakers have done lots of work to rebirth this type of ancient practice.

Ukraine lies between the 45th parallel to the south and the 52nd to the north. This is important thing that helps to grow wine grapes and make some wine. There is not all the territory suits for grape-growing. This situation is typical for the southern and western parts of Ukraine. Howbeit some winemakers do it even in the northern parts of our country. And we think it`s beautiful!

You can find different varieties in Ukraine. Most of all are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir etc. Surprise! Surprise! We have got even autochthons. Some of them do not grow on other countries. So it`s our precious for sure. What should you know else? Listen to this lesson!

Ukraine got no specific wine classification. Our country is still so young that`s why tries to create something in this way. For example – PGI and PDO. It relates to European wine classification. These abbreviations mean the connection between the quality of a product and its place of origin. What else is going on?

Have you ever heard about Bessarabia? This is such a beautiful place where wine plays an important role! It`s South Ukraine and borders with Moldova. There are more than 2/3 of all country`s vineyards. Yes, Bessarabia is a real wine land where each part of culture has a connection with this divine drink.

The vines love sea. It is a fact! And Ukraine has such an important destination for grape vines. Black Sea region consists of Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv. There are some of the best wineries and wines in Ukraine. Everybody must try it for sure. Do you want to know more? Here is the new lesson. Enjoy!

Transcarpathia is a winemaking region in western part of Ukraine. It is a land with rich wine history. Almost everybody makes different types of this divine drink there. Transcarpathia welcomes people from around the world to taste its wine. Each person takes all of interesting interaction – from medieval castles and wine cellars to thermal springs and mountain scenery.

Remember we said that there are winemakers even in northern parts of Ukraine? It is true but not the whole. Why? The answer is simple, because winemakers grow grape and make wine throughout the territory of our country. How is it possible? The answer is in this lesson.
