The company Airbnb, for instance, doesn't own any real estate but has more listings than Marriott, Hilton, Intercontinental, Wyndham, and Arcore all combined.

Furthermore, they have greater value for these companies and are less at risk of being severely damaged when everything goes crazy. These companies, Marriott and Hilton, are suffering. Airbnb has actually grown. They actually booked more rooms in May and June of 2020 than in May and June of 19 in the US. The thought of it is absolutely crazy. The idea is to control and leverage these assets for the most part because the upside will be higher, scalability higher, and risks much, much lower. Another excellent example is Uber. There is no taxi in their fleet, not even a single one.

As a result, we're seeing this gold rush occurring with Airbnb right now. Worldwide, Airbnb has more than six million listings. More than half a billion guests have stayed at Airbnb since 2009 and the company has grown at a compound annual rate of 153 percent. For the last decade, the number has grown over 2.5 times each year. Airbnb hosts have earned over 65 billion dollars from their properties that otherwise wouldn't earn this kind of income.
