5G mobile networks are quickly becoming a reality. This very high level technical overview will examine the technologies that are driving the need for a next generation mobile network and examine the technologies used to satisfy these needs.

In the world of mobile networking, LTE technology is a bit too slow and lacks important features to serve the needs of next generation technology like self driving cars and augmented reality. In this course, 5G Networks: Executive Briefing, you will explore the next generation mobile network, 5G, and how it will provide the infrastructure which will allow tech, like self driving cars, to communicate at very high speeds with very low latency. First, you will examine the mobile network needs of future technology and how LTE mobile networks are unable to accommodate these needs. Next, you will learn that the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is developing the standards for 5G, and how these will drive the key design goals of 5G. Finally, you will explore what the technical implementation of 5G will look like. The implementation of 5G will use millimeter waves, small cell sizes, MIMO, beam forming, and full duplex communication to accomplish the design goals. By the end of this course, you will have been provided with an introduction to these technologies and how they will work together to achieve the goals of the ITU 5G standards.
