En este contexto, el desarrollo de mecanismos que garanticen una adecuada protección social, cualquiera que sea el país en que la persona se encuentre, resulta imprescindible para cumplir los ODS 1 (fin de la pobreza), 3 (salud y bienestar), 5 (igualdad de género), 8 (trabajo decente y crecimiento económico) y 17 (alianzas para lograr los objetivos).
El Convenio Multilateral Iberoamericano de Seguridad Social surge como instrumento de coordinación de las legislaciones de Seguridad Social entre diferentes Estados Iberoamericanos. Esto significa que, gracias a este convenio, todas estas personas que trabajan y viven en diferentes países de la región van a tener garantizados sus derechos en materia de protección social. Se trata, por tanto, de una pieza clave para la consecución de los ODS en una región en la que habitan más de 600 millones personas.
