Designing a Fashion Collection (aka Line) is a complex process involving many steps executed in sequential order to best produce optimum results.
I will take you through the components and tools to prepare, organize, and execute the designing of your Collection/Line.
You will learn new terminology such as Slopers, Mood Boards, Draping process, Pattern drafting, Cost Sheets, Tech Packs.

This is the brainstorming phase of research and planning. We discuss your company's vision, and the steps necessary to bring it to life.
We define your Brand’s identity; identify your Market and the Target Customer. I will coach you in defining: "Who are you as an artist and designer?”. What is your "Style" in the context of fashion.
Students will be able to start visualizing their Collection and having a direction.
FABRIC will be the main topic of this lesson. Fabric is discussed and analyzed: the weight, the "hand", the texture, etc. Decisions are made regarding fabrics choices, colors, cohesiveness , etc.
Using fabric as a source of inspiration.
Students will be able ti identify different types of fabric and their use.
SKETCHING will be the main topic of this lesson. Discussing: Elements of Design: Silhouette, Proportion, Color, etc...
Defining "croquis" and choosing croquis templates to use as guidelines.
Students will be able to start sketching they Collection and putting together a Group, using a "Theme".
Once a direction has been established, the beginning of the sample making process starts. It starts with draping, using a fabric known as muslin, or using a technique called Pattern Drafting.
A muslin sample is cut and sewn. It is then fitted, either of a dress form or a live model.
Students will learn the meaning and definition of Draping and Pattern Drafting and how to create a sample to then use for a fitting. A series of Samples becomes a Group.
Once all sample are cut in the actual fabric, and the Collection is complete, we are ready to go into production. Markers are made. Large quantity of fabric is purchased and the garments are cut and sewn.
Brands search for the right factory to sew and produce the garments.
Produced garments are then shipped to the retail stores.
By making a list, students learn the necessary components when starting a new venture.
How to price a garment -- what is a Cost Sheet. What is a Mark-up.
What is a Tech Pack and what is it used for.
Students will learn how to complete a Cost Sheet, and using a Mark-up thus making a profit when selling to the retail stores. Also, how to complete a Tech Pack when dealing with a factory.
Social Media and its importance in promoting a new Brand.
Look-Books are also created to help promote the collection.
Photoshoots are produced to support the marketing of the Brand.
