في ظل التطورات الاقتصادية وتوسع حجم الأعمال تواجه العديد من الشركات الحاجة إلى رؤوس أموال ضخمة، ومن المستحيل الاعتماد على مصادر التمويل الذاتية للحصول عليها، فتقلبات الأسعار وخاصة أسعار الفائدة يجعل عملية الاقتراض ذات تكلفة مرتفعة، لذلك تلجأ العديد من الشركات الصغيرة ومتوسطة الحجم إلى الاندماجات (Mergers) وتكوين تجمعات اقتصادية أكبر للنمو والتوسع، وفي أحيان أخرى تلجأ الشركات الكبيرة إلى الاستحواذ (Acquisitions) على الشركات الصغيرة لتجنب المنافسة وتدعيم وجودها في السوق، ومن هنا تنبع ضرورة التعرف على القيمة العادلة للشركات السوقية عن طريق عملية التقييم بأبعادها المختلفة.
