Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

Material Requirements Planning, or MRP, is a production planning, scheduling, and inventory control system used to manage manufacturing processes. It is a critical component of modern manufacturing and inventory management, and plays a vital role in ensuring that the right materials are available at the right time and in the right quantity to meet production demands.

What is MRP?

MRP is a computer-based system that helps manufacturers plan and control the flow of materials through their production process. It takes into account factors such as demand forecasts, production schedules, and inventory levels to determine the optimal timing and quantity of materials to order, produce, and deliver.

MRP is based on a master production schedule, which outlines the production plan for the entire manufacturing process. The master production schedule is used to calculate the demand for each component and raw material required to produce the finished goods. This information is then used to generate a series of material requirements plans, which specify the quantity of each component and raw material that needs to be ordered or produced at each stage of the production process.
