Our cells have used blood sugar, which comes from carbohydrates, as the body’s main source of energy. As in the the Ketogenic Diet the carbohydrates intake is reduced to 5% of the daily calories, not to exceed 20grams of Net carbs a day, in the lack of blood sugar from food, the body adjusts and starts breaking down stored fat into molecules called ketones in a process called ketosis.
