Project Overview

By the end of this project, you will learn how to use Inkscape to draw a vector graphic starting from a picture. You’ll discover how to create a vector image adopting a flat design style. In graphic design and visual arts, “Flat design” is defined as a minimalist design language or style commonly used in web applications, mobile apps, or graphical materials such as posters, arts, infographics and publishing products. It implements a minimal use of simple elements, typography and flat colours. It is largely appreciated in websites as flat design illustrations are very versatile and light, able to be adapted to a variety of screens, devices or interfaces without loss of definition. With “Vector graphics” we mean computer graphics images that are defined in terms of points on a Cartesian plane, connected by lines and curves to form shapes. Vector graphics are largely used in graphic design as the points, lines, and curves may be scaled up or down to any resolution with no aliasing. Inkscape is a Free and open-source vector graphics editor for GNU/Linux, Windows and macOS X. It offers a rich set of features and is widely used for both artistic and technical illustrations such as cartoons, clip art, logos, typography, diagramming and flowcharting. It uses vector graphics to allow for sharp printouts and renderings at unlimited resolution and is not bound to a fixed number of pixels like raster graphics. It is largely used by graphic designers, illustrators, artists, or photographers as an open-source alternative to vector graphics editing software. Its interface is user-friendly so it can be enjoyed by anyone interested or involved in jobs related to graphics and visual arts.
