Learn more about Bandhas

The Sanskrit word mula refers to the root of a plant or tree. The word bandha means to check, obstruct, restrain, lock. Bandha is described as the damming up of a river, by doing this we can expand, open and strengthen the flow of energies through the body.

Jalandhara is a Sanskrit word derived from the roots jal, meaning "throat," and dhara, meaning "flow." It is performed by bringing the chin down towards the chest; therefore, it is also called the "chin lock." Practicing this bandha improves the function of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, as well as supports the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

Uddiyana is a Sanskrit word meaning "to rise up." In this second bandha, energy moves upward more forcefully than it does in mula bandha.

Bandhas explained: Maha Bandha

A very powerful practice. Bahya Pranayama is one of the vital respiration exercises in which you have to forcibly breathe in (inhale), breath out and then hold the breath (retention). In this, the breathing is kept outside during the process so that’s why this Pranayama is named as Baahya Pranayama.
