Use Transactional Analysis, developed by Dr. Eric Berne, the next time you're in a difficult situation. Understandng the ego state of others & choosing the adult ego response can help you speak assertively – cool, objective & controlled.

Awareness helps but it isn't quite enough. Try these techniques to adjust in the moment for better results. The more you practice them, the easier it gets.

Being assertive might mean sharing information that someone is not going to like. If you don't like to upset people or you who highly values keeping relationships in good terms, this might be hard for you. But when you are in difficult conversations remember to keep to the facts.
